The Charter Fee is an additional, obligatory cost, which typically includes the end cleaning of the boat, home port fees, and linen & towels. The details of the charter fee differ depending on the boat, location and charter partner.
There are marina fees and fuel costs which vary depending on the type, duration and location of your sailing holiday. Marina fees need to be paid at each marina you choose to dock overnight - the amount varies but you may be able to find this information in advance by contacting the marinas directly. Fuel costs depend on whether you’re sailing a motorboat or a sailboat. You can estimate fuel costs by double-checking your chosen boat’s engine, and the expected distance you aim to sail.
Do you dream of feeling the wind on your skin while sailing across the Mediterranean? Do you want to embark on an adventure that’s going to challenge and relax you at the same time? Rent a sailboat in Palau and discover what you’re capable of. You can either sail along the beautiful Sardinian coast to admire its natural beauty and stunning landscapes, discover the islands of the Maddalena archipelago or sail all the way to Bonifacio in Corsica. You can easily plan some nice stops along the way, like Isola Razzoli or Plage de la Cala di u Lioni.
Rent a sailboat in Palau if you want to travel more environmentally friendly. As sailboats are powered by the wind, they don’t need any extra fuel. This means that you can travel without causing any extra CO2-emissions. An added bonus is that it will save you tons of money as well.
Charter a sailboat in Palau if you want to challenge yourself. Sailing a sailboat requires more advanced skills than driving a boat that is powered by an engine. As the winds here are strong enough to operate a sailboat, but not extremely strong, it is also a great place for beginners to practice their skills.
A sailboat rental in Palau is going to give you great flexibility when it comes to sailing longer routes. Many brave sailors have already embarked on adventures that involved crossing multiple oceans and rough seas with a sailboat, so if you want to head out to explore other parts of the Thyrenian sea, you should definitely go for it. If you’re afraid that your sailing skills might not be strong enough for such an adventure, you can always hire an experienced skipper in addition to your bareboat charter in Palau so that you can learn from them or lean back while they do the work.
Anyone who wants to experience a boat holiday on a sailboat in Palau will enjoy the relatively slow and quiet pace of life for a week to escape the pressures of everyday life.
As sailboats solely run on wind, you are truly at the mercy of mother nature. This also means that you might get stuck in the middle of the sea at times and have to wait for the wind to pick up again before moving forward.
Another downside of a sailboat rental in Palau might be that sailboats require you to bring a lot of equipment in order to operate them. If you’re looking for a more comfortable holiday, a sailboat is probably not the right choice for you.
While a sailing adventure around Palau sounds like the perfect option to escape reality for a while, you can’t just hop on a sailboat and think that everything is going to be alright. You should have proper training and experience before setting sail all alone. This also means that you probably need to have a more adventurous streak in you than most other people.
Another bummer might be the simple inconvenience of sailboats having a keel rather than a shallow draft. This means that you might miss out on exploring some of the most beautiful beaches around Sardinia as you can’t sail very close to the shore - especially with all the rocks and stones lying in front of the coast.
Want to splurge on a luxury vacation in Sardinia this year? Why not rent a luxury sailboat in Palau this year. You get to enjoy all the adventurous sides of a sailboat vacation while also experiencing a certain level of comfort that you would not get when renting a regular sailboat. Basic amenities like a stove, fridge, freezer or a coffee machine are almost always included and additional features for fun like SUPs or snorkelling equipment can often be found as well.
Generally, up to 12 people fit on board a sailboat in Palau. Sure, you might be able to find even bigger sailboats and those who can carry a higher number of people, but they are not as common.
Sailing season in Sardinia generally lasts from May until September. Like many other places in Italy and the Mediterranean, the summers are incredibly hot and dry. However, as Palau is located on the island of Sardinia, there is also a nice breeze coming your way - ideal for sailing along the northern Sardinian coast. In the summer the wind velocity usually doesn’t go above 25 knots and averages at around 8-20 knots.
Blessed with more than 300 days of sunshine per year, meaning basically all year round. You get to soak up the sun and enjoy more than one beach day. The ‘Mistral’ wind basically blows from the north to the west coast, giving you a nice push on a sailboat.
Renting a sailboat in Palau doesn’t have to be expensive. There are plenty of sailboats available in Palau and the surrounding towns like Cannigione. You can already rent a sailboat for as little as 2000 EUR per week. Booking a hotel wouldn’t be any cheaper - plus, you get to sail wherever you want and wake up to the sunrise in the most stunning locations. That’s something that money can’t buy!
Anyone who wants to rent a sailboat in Palau needs to carry a valid boat licence. If you reside in a EU-country your boat licence is automatically valid, if you come from outside of the EU you need to check if your boat licence meets the requirements of an Italian boat licence. You can always carry an International Certificate of Competency or short ICC.
If you don’t have a valid boat licence and don’t plan on getting one in the near future, you can always hire an experienced skipper or captain directly via Borrow A Boat to navigate and sail your boat for you. This is also recommended for anyone who doesn’t have a lot of experience operating a sailboat as they require more training than other types of boats.
There are plenty of picturesque routes you can take alongside the Sardinian coast or all the way up to Corsica.
Day 1 - Sail from Palau to Maddalena Island: This route is taking you straight to the heart of the Parco Nazionale dell'Arcipelago di La Maddalena with its crystal clear, but turquoise water, the white sandy beaches and other natural wonders. Explore one or a few of the amazing coves scattered all around Maddalena Island. These spots are often also perfect for diving and snorkelling, adding some extra fun to your sailboat vacation. However, be careful when approaching the coves and beaches as sailboats have a keel, which makes it difficult and sometimes even dangerous to sail too close to the shore.
Day 2 - Sail from Maddalena Island to Santa Teresa Gallura: It’s a very short distance of 10 nautical miles, making it the perfect spot to stop by for a delicious Italian meal, to go for a swim or to discover archeological sites like Sito Archeologico Lu Brandali - Mostra di Archeologia Nuragica. One of the coolest things when coming here might be the fact that you can see all the way to Bonifacio in Corsica when you head to the most Northern tip of the town.
Day 3 - Sail from Santa Teresa Gallura to Bonfacio: The time has come to sail all the way to Bonifacio. Since you can already see it from a distance, you might as well just head over there. Explore the historical streets overlooking the sea and admire the majestic cliffs when arriving here.
Day 4 - Sail from Bonifacio to Porto Vecchio: Surrounded by beautiful green and hilly landscapes, this Corse town is a wonderful place to visit and admire both the Italian and French influences that have made it what it is. A Genoese citadel dating back to the 16th century is one of the most beautiful historical landmarks you can visit here.
Day 5 - Sail from Porto Vecchio to Cavallo Island: Discover turquoise waters, unique rock formations and the stunning coves. You will think that you have arrived in the Caribbean rather than a Corse island.
Day 6 - Sail from Cavallo Island to Plage de la Cala di u Lioni: Sailing on a sailboat might mean that you can’t reach this beautiful beach, but you can still anchor for the night and wake up to a beautiful sunrise here.
Day 7 - Sail from Plage de la Cala di u Lioni to Palau: Your sailing adventure in Palau is coming to an end, so you should take in the stunning views of Sardinia one last time when sailing alongside the coast. Feel the fresh sea breeze on your skin and taste the salty flavours of the sea on your tongue. What a perfect way to end your sailing vacation on a sailboat in Palau!
